An Overview of Crisis Management

ABSTRACT

  An organization may waste a few hours to write a press release when disaster happens. If a pre-set program of measures has already proposed, such as simply fill in the date, location, probably, the number of casualties. The rest of the things have already been prepared, including news release to the public. This is the so-called “crisis management”.

  No organization can be exempted from the crisis; therefore all organizations must learn how to deal with the crisis as much as possible. The objective of this paper is to study the origin, basic elements, characteristics, stages, categories, inferences, scopes and common mistakes of crisis management, and then provides specific strategies for diversity of situations so as to establish the concepts of the four basic elements of crisis management (prevention, preparedness, implementation and learning) to enhance organizational capability to deal with crises.
